One Step Closer

Posted on October 5, 2010

I turned in a draft version of the completed performance chapter Monday morning, marking the first time that I’ve ever been able to say that I have a complete draft of the book. I’m hoping for a beta by the end of this week.

And, since I haven’t added the links in a while, here are the links where you can get the book from Pragmatic or from Amazon.

Which isn’t to say that I’m done, though it’s getting closer. For one thing, there’s a fresh batch of errata – sincere thanks for that, most of the issues found are easy to fix and hard to find.

Next up is a general look-through to make sure that the book is still reasonably up to date. I’m aware of the following things that I know need to be updated:

  • Blue Ridge in the JavaScript chapter needs to be replaces with Jasmine and the jasmine_rails gem

  • Some of the cucumber default behavior changed since I last touched up the chapter

  • In the factory/fixture chapter, Machinist is going for a version 2.0 that’s quite different, and I need to decide if I want to keep talking about Machinist 1, jump to the in-beta Machinist 2, or make Factory Girl the star of the chapter.

  • I might want to add the not_a_mock library to the comparative mock tool discussion

If you’ve been reading Rails Test Prescriptions, and you are aware that a different library or tool is substantially out of date, let me know. Thanks.
